The Korean minister paid a courtesy visit to President Nguyen Xuan Phuc in Hanoi on Wednesday.
At the meeting, President Phuc said that the two sides need to effectively capitalize on their cooperation in investment, trade, science and technology, culture and education. He suggested that Korea further support the overseas Vietnamese community and facilitate Vietnamese language and culture to continue to be widely introduced in Korea. The President called on the Republic of Korea to share experiences in research of treatment methods and vaccines, and share medical resources in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The President highly appreciated the Republic of Korea for coordinating and supporting Vietnam in fulfilling its role as the Chair of ASEAN 2020 and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 term. The two sides need to coordinate closely while Vietnam assumes the role of coordinator for ASEAN-Republic of Korea relations for the 2021-2024 term, he said.
The Korean Foreign Minister said he wishes to work closely with Vietnam to promote cooperation between Korea and ASEAN, including Mekong sub-region. He affirmed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ willingness to continue working closely with Vietnam at multilateral forums and on issues of mutual concern, voicing his hope that Vietnam will continue to contribute to promoting dialogue and cooperation on the Korean Peninsula.
