(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Kunio Umeda in Hanoi on Thursday to discuss measures to promote cooperation between the two countries.

Mr. Phuc expressed his thanks to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for inviting him to attend the G20 Summit and visit the country later this month, adding that the trip will be made at a time when the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership is flourishing.
PM Phuc said he hopes the ambassador will help ensure that his upcoming visit to Japan will lift bilateral cooperation to a new height, particularly in economy, trade, and investment.
Ambassador Umeda said Japanese businesses plan to expand investment in Vietnam, a country with a huge development potential that consistently creates optimal conditions for investors.
Mr. Umeda touched on a number of problems in education, training, investment, and trade cooperation that need to be addressed.

At a reception for Yasutsugu Iwamura, AEON’s Executive Director and General Director of AEON Mall Vietnam the same day, PM Phuc urged the Japanese retail giant to invest more in Vietnam and buy more Vietnamese products.
Mr. Iwamura said his company will double its import of Vietnamese goods to 500 million USD and said Vietnam is likely to become a top food supplier to Japanese consumers. The figure could surge to 1 billion USD by 2025. Last year, AEON imported Vietnamese goods worth nearly 250 million USD to sell at its malls in Japan.
