Vietnam, Japan celebrate 50 years of diplomatic ties

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and Japan have nurtured an increasingly substantive and effective relationship based on cultural similarities, close historical ties, and high political trust, Party Politburo member Truong Thi Mai said at a ceremony celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries in Hanoi on Thursday.

Ms. Mai, who is also Chairwoman of the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group, hailed Japan as a top partner of Vietnam in economics, trade, investment, tourism and labor.

“These achievements are attributed to the two countries’ enduring efforts to overcome differences and challenges. More importantly, they stemmed from the two people’s aspiration to secure peace and prosperity for the two countries and contribute to peace,  stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world,” she noted. 
Japan's Crown Prince Akishino, who is on a visit to Vietnam, said there have been lively and dynamic bilateral exchange activities taking place, particularly between Vietnamese and Japanese youth and between their localities.

On this occasion, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh cabled a message of congratulations to his Japanese counterpart Kishida Fumio.

PM Chinh affirmed that over the past five decades, the cooperative and friendly relations have been growing robustly and comprehensively, with significant achievements. The two countries have become extremely important partners of each other, sharing numerous common strategic interests and supporting each other effectively in the process of national construction and development.

He expressed the wish that both sides would continue nurturing their relationship in the spirit of sincerity, trust, substantiveness, and effectiveness, elevating bilateral ties to new heights with a new framework.
