Vietnam joins ASEAN activities in Brunei

(VOVworld)-Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh joined his Southeast Asian counterparts  at a series of meetings in Brunei from April 10-11 to prepare for the 22nd ASEAN Summit later this month. The meetings include the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM), Politico-Security Council Meeting (APSC), and Coordination Council Meeting. During these meetings, the ministers expressed concern on the tension in the Korean peninsula and urged related parties to restrain for peace, stability and nuclear free. They praised the importance of peace and maritime security and safety in the East Sea while resolving dispute through peaceful measures in line with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea on the basis of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) towards an early building of the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) while emphasizing the ASEAN China declaration to mark 10 years of the DOC. Addressing those meetings, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh hailed the importance in building up the ASEAN Community by 2015, strengthening connectivity in the grouping in terms of infrastructure, policy and people. He called for more unity and active participation in tackling challenges emerging from world economic crisis, natural disaster and maritime security. He seconded the role played by Thailand in coordinating dialogue relations between the ASEAN and China and acceleration of the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of ASEAN China partnership.
