Vietnam joins ASEAN in seeking ways for post-earthquake recovery in Myanmar, Thailand
(VOVWORLD) - The Foreign Ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) convened a special emergency meeting on Sunday at the request from Malaysia, the 2025 ASEAN Chair, to discuss coordinated efforts to address the aftermath of the March 28 earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand.

Speaking on behalf of Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to supporting Myanmar and Thailand in their recovery efforts. He also called on all parties in Myanmar to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches affected communities safely and without obstruction.
Deputy Minister Viet emphasized ASEAN’s central role in crisis coordination, urging the bloc to maximize its existing mechanisms and partnerships to mobilize and effectively distribute resources for disaster relief.
