Vietnam makes remarkable progress in poverty reduction: UNDP report
(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam’s poverty rate fell from 18.1% in 2012 to 4.4% in 2021, according to a UNDP report.
Vietnam was among the top countries to implement multi-dimensional poverty reduction with criteria not just calculated on income, but other factors that concern people’s lives. Vietnam has integrated multidimensional poverty reduction in its policies and set out specific targets, the report said, adding that the country has also adjusted its poverty line to enable people to benefit more from policies.
Ousmane Dione, a World Bank expert, said: "Vietnam's poverty rate is today below 10% and extreme poverty has fallen to less than 3% from international standard. This reflects how much the country has successfully done in term of poverty reduction."
Vietnam’s achievements in poverty reduction have been due to reforms in the government’s support policies for the poor, which places the people at the center of development with an aim to leave no one behind.
