Vietnam, New Zealand boost comprehensive cooperation

(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has said that Vietnam hopes to boost comprehensive cooperation with New Zealand, particularly in the areas of economics, trade and investment. During talks with visiting New Zealand Governor General Jerry Mateparae in Hanoi on Tuesday, Prime Minister Dung said that Vietnamese and New Zealand agencies would work together to implement the agreements reached during the Governor General’s visit. He asked both sides to implement the Vietnam-New Zealand Program of Action until 2016. Vietnam and New Zealand have agreed to support each other at regional and international forums and boost cooperation in investment and trade. Prime Minister Dung said he hoped New Zealand will continue with its ODA for Vietnam.

Governor General Jerry Mateparae said that the purpose of his visit was to consolidate bilateral cooperation in a number of areas such as agriculture, education, aviation, clean technology, tourism, and climate change response. He said New Zealand will consider providing more scholarships to Vietnamese students and opening educational centers in Vietnam. He also hoped that Vietnam would support New Zealand in expanding cooperation and trade exchanges with other ASEAN nations.

During his stay in Vietnam, Governor General Mateparae attended a ceremony commemorating Vietnam-New Zealand educational cooperation. He also visited and laid a wreath at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Hanoi.
