Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said that Vietnam’s aquaculture development strategy to 2030 and a vision to 2045 aims to turn marine aquaculture into a sector yielding a large volume of products for export and domestic consumption and also encourage industrial fisheries in open waters.
“Through the signing of the letter of intent, I would like to emphasize a number of issues that need cooperation: Norway supports human resources, experts, and financial resources within the framework of bilateral cooperation to help enforce the fisheries law and the agreements Vietnam is joining in to have the yellow card removed in the near future,” said Mr. Tien.
He proposed that Norway's food safety agency coordinate with the Department of Animal Health and the Department of Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Management to exchange information on regulations on exporting aquatic products and products of animal origin.
The Deputy Minister also asked Norway to continue to support staff training and send experts to testing centers in Vietnam.
