Vietnam observes World Environment Day

(VOVWORLD) - Hundreds of giant crape-myrtle trees were planted in Buon Ma Thuot city in Dak Lak province on Wednesday in response to World Environment Day, June 5th. They are part of a Government project to plant one billion trees by 2025.

Mr. Tran Duc Nhat, Vice Chairman of Buon Ma Thuot city’s People’s Committee, said that in recent years Dak Lak province has promoted tree planting, forestation, and forest protection. Last year the province planted 4,500 hectares of forest. 

At 17.2  square meters per person, Buon Ma Thuot city has one of most extensive urban green spaces in Vietnam. The city will continue taking environmental protection measures to become a green, ecological, smart city.

Mr. Nhat said: “Local authorities, sectors, and localities will plant another 5,000 trees in the coming days. This move is directed by the provincial People’s Committee.”
