Vietnam opposes China’s holding of election on Tam Sa island
(VOVworld)- On Monday, the spokesperson for Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry Le Hai Binh responded to reporters’ questions on Vietnam’s reaction to China holding the election for the 2
nd Municipal Congress of “Sansha city” and conducting patrols in the waters off the Hoang Sa (Paracel) islands.
Binh said that
“Vietnam has sufficient legal and historical evidence proving its sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos. China’s holding of the election for the Municipal Congress of the so-called Sansha city which was illegally set up by China and conducting illegal patrols in the waters off the Paracels seriously violates Vietnam’s sovereignty. These illegal acts cannot change the reality of Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos. Vietnam resolutely opposes and demands China respect Vietnam’s sovereignty, immediately halt its wrongful actions and seriously abide by the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the east Sea and the Agreement on fundamental principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues between Vietnam and China.”
