Vietnam pledges continued cooperation with ASEAN for peaceful, sustainable solution to Myanmar
(VOVWORLD) -Minister Counselor Le Thi Minh Thoa, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, said Vietnam supports and appreciates the role of the ASEAN Chair in connecting all stakeholders in the search for a peaceful and sustainable solution, as well as ASEAN's efforts to promote humanitarian relief in Myanmar and the repatriation process in Rakhine State.

Thoa addressed the United Nations Security Council's Arria-formula meeting on the situation in Myanmar chaired by United Kingdom in New York on Friday. The process of resolving the situation in Myanmar must be owned and led by Myanmar, she said.
Stakeholders in Myanmar must fully and effectively implement the Five-Point Consensus adopted by ASEAN to end violence, ensure humanitarian and medical access, and create an enabling environment for all people.
The international community needs to strengthen cooperation with ASEAN and UN agencies in coordinating humanitarian relief activities, ensuring relief goods reach people in difficulty, especially women and children. In this process, the international community needs to ensure respect for Myanmar's sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and unity, Thoa added.
At the meeting, many countries expressed deep concern about the situation in Myanmar, condemning the use of force against civilians as well as the attack on the convoy of the ASEAN Coordination Center for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA) and the ASEAN Monitoring Group in Myanmar.
An Arria-formula meeting is an informal meeting on important, emerging issues, with the participation of member states of the Security Council as well as members of the United Nations outside of the Security Council, international organizations and individuals in related fields.
