The 3-day meeting held by the United Nations Office on Crime Prevention and Control (UNODC) has brought together 200 delegates from 17 countries and territories in Asia-Pacific.
Speaking at the first session on Monday, Long briefed participants on Vietnam’s anti-corruption efforts and introduced major steps taken by Vietnam to fight corruption: strengthening the leadership of the Central Steering Committee on corruption prevention and control; improving institutions, mechanisms, policies, and laws so criminals can’t take advantage of them; and enhancing the role of political and social organizations and press agencies in anti-corruption efforts.
Long said it’s necessary to improve the capacity and operational efficiency of the agencies that fight corruption, and increase international anti-corruption cooperation.
The Vietnamese delegation pledged to coordinate closely with other countries and organisations in fighting corruption, and, as an ASEAN member, to actively and responsibly join the group’s cooperation frameworks on anti-corruption.
