Vietnam praised for its increasingly important role at UNESCO
(VOVWORLD) - The support of UNESCO and other United Nations organizations has greatly contributed to Vietnam’s sustainable socio-economic development and promoted the cultural values, image, and people of Vietnam, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son said at Thursday’s reception in Hanoi for Assistant Director-General of UNESCO Firmin Edouard Matoko.

Mr. Son expressed his hope for closer cooperation with UNESCO in culture, education, and science with the goal of making Vietnam a developing country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030.
Minister Son presented Matoko with a certificate of merit in recognition of his contributions to the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and UNESCO.
Matoko said that Vietnam plays an increasingly important role at UNESCO and is an active member of key mechanisms of the organization and a role model for effective cooperation with UNESCO.
The Vietnam National Committee for UNESCO is one of the dynamic national committees in the region, which has mobilized the participation of the private sector and the community in its activities in Vietnam.
Matoko also expressed his support for Vietnam's efforts in submitting UNESCO heritage documents.
