Vietnam President: Vietnam determined to join efforts to complete TPP negotiations
(VOVworld) – President Truong Tan Sang received US Trade Representative Michael Froman on Monday on the sidelines of the UN Summit in New York.
He asked the US to meet Vietnam’s requests on market opening and creating favorable conditions including limiting trade barriers for Vietnamese export products. He called on both countries to strengthen cooperation on the basis of the Vietnam-US Joint Vision Statement in order to fully realize TPP commitments and duties in line with international and Vietnamese law. He asked the US to recognize Vietnam’s market economy status, limit anti-dumping lawsuits against Vietnamese tra and basa fish and shrimp products, and not to deploy the new Catfish Monitor Program of the US Department of Agriculture under the 2014 Agricultural Act.
The US Trade Representative shared assessments on TPP negotiation prospects and said that Vietnamese-US negotiations have maintained momentum and progressed well. He urged both sides to strengthen cooperation to promote bilateral trade.
