At a dialogue on emerging technologies with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk held in the framework of the 56th session of the UN Human Rights Council on Thursday, Mr. Han said Vietnam’s National Digital Transformation Program is trying to reduce the digital gap by expanding Internet access to rural areas and vulnerable groups.

He affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to human rights amidst the digital technology revolution, particularly the rapid development of the Internet and AI.

Since the proliferation of means of communications has brought about such challenges as fake news and misinformation, Vietnam is calling for enhanced cooperation between countries and regional and international organizations to share experience, coordinate responses, and establish global standards for sustainable development based on emerging technologies, he said.

At a dialogue with the UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, Mr. Han said poverty alleviation is one of the most notable achievements of the international community. With the whole world facing a high risk of returning to poverty due to conflicts and climate change, Vietnam is calling on the international community to join hands to create solutions to the problem.
