(VOVWORLD) -The 1-0 win in Sunday’s final match helped Vietnamese female football players become the champions at the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
Forward Hai Yen, who replaced midfielder Nguyen Thi Van in the second half, headed in the goal from close range in second minute of the extra time. This was enough for Vietnam's women to defend their champion title.
Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women’s Union Nguyen Thi Thu Ha sent a letter of congratulation to the Vietnamese women football team and decided to award 100 million VND (4,300 USD) to the team. In the letter, Chairwoman Ha praised the female footballers for continuing the fine tradition of Vietnamese women, promoting solidarity and desire, and doing their best to contribute to achievements of the Vietnamese athletes at SEA Games 30 as well as in regional and international competitions.
On Sunday, Vietnam secured an additional 20 gold, 7 of which belonged to track-and-field athletes. Archers won 3 gold.
After 8 days of competition, Vietnam won 66 golds, 59 silvers and 78 bronzes, ranking second in the medal tally. The host Philippines ranked first with 111 gold.
