(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam has completed its preparations for the UN Day of Vesak 2019, which will be celebrated at the Tam Chuc Buddhism Culture Center in Ha Nam province from Sunday to Tuesday. This is the third time such event has been held in Vietnam which expects to attract 2,000 delegates from 100 countries and territories worldwide and tens of thousands of Buddhist followers and visitors.

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the organizing board have detailed plans to ensure security during the Vesak Day.
Colonel Pham Hoai Nam, Deputy Director of the Ha Nam provincial Police, said: “Since the third quarter of last year, Ha Nam police have inspected venues. Our security plan has been implemented since the middle of March in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Security. We have conducted safety and security drills. The Ha Nam provincial Police have set up a command center and dispatched 1,500 police to 32 posts.”
Thousands of volunteers are helping guide the traffic flow and welcome visitors. 400 electric cars will operate free of charge round the clock during the Vesak Day. 40,000 free meals and drinks will be delivered to pilgrims each day.
Superior Monk Thich Minh Quang, Deputy Secretary General of the Organizing Committee, said free tours are arranged for delegates. “The organizing board will offer official delegates free tours to Sapa, Yen Tu mountain in Quang Ninh province, the Trang An-Bai Dinh complex in Ninh Binh province, Hanoi, and Halong Bay. We have received a great number of applicants. The logistics team has been ready for the 3-day event. We hope all people coming to the Day will have great time”, said Superior Monk Quang.
A series of exhibitions opened at Tam Chuc Buddhism Culture Center on Friday to introduce Vietnam’s culture and Buddhism culture on the sidelines of the UN Vesak Day 2019 celebration. Exhibits include photos, publications, and stone sculptures featuring Buddhism in Vietnam and around the world. Visitors are also treated to a vegetarian food fair.
