Dr. Pham Manh Hung, Chairman of the Vietnam Medical Association told a workshop on infectious diseases and HIV/AIDS in Can Tho city on Friday that the medical sector has managed to control the HIV epidemic with decreasingly new cases, reducing the number of HIV cases related to AIDS and decreasing the number of deaths caused by AIDS. The rate of HIV infection cases in Vietnam is now the lowest in the Southeast Asia. Regarding treatment, Mr. Hung said scientific research in this area has seen much progress and some HIV/AIDS treatment models have been effectively implemented. Scientific research has helped policy makers to build national strategies and plans to prevent and deal with HIV/AIDS in the country.
