Vietnam, Republic of Korea aim for 100 billion USD trade

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his spouse arrived in Seoul on Wednesday, beginning an official visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK) at the invitation of President Moon Jae-in. The visit followed the ASEAN-RoK Commemorative Summit celebrating  30 years of their dialogue partnership and the first Mekong-RoK Summit in Busan.

The official welcome ceremony for the Vietnamese PM and his entourage was held at the Seoul military airport. Afterwards, talks were held between Prime Minister Phuc and President Moon. Both sides agreed to continue exchanges of delegations and effectively maintain the deputy-ministerial level dialogue in diplomacy, security, and defense. Both leaders aimed to increase bilateral trade to 100 billion USD in the years to come.

Prime Minister Phuc called on the Republic of Korea to create favorable conditions for Vietnam to increase its exports to the Republic of Korea, particularly agricultural and aquatic products. He said he expects the Korean investors to increase their investment in hi-tech, support industry, and automobile industry. Both leaders agreed to continue to encourage people-to-people exchanges, assist the Vietnamese community in the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Korean community in Vietnam, and strengthen cooperation in culture, education, scientific research, and sports.

Exchanging ideas on regional and global situation, both leaders agreed to boost information sharing, cooperation, and mutual support at international forums. They underscored the importance of peace, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and aviation, as well as settling disputes in Vietnam’s East Sea through peaceful means and in line with international law.

Prime Minister Phuc applauded the Republic of Korea’s efforts in promoting peace on the Korean peninsula, affirming Vietnam’s unwavering stance of supporting peace, stability, denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, and settling related issues through peaceful means and dialogues.

After the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of cooperation documents.
