Fireworks lighted up HCM city’s sky as the clock ticked midnight. There was barely standing room on Nguyen Hue pedestrian street in District 1 at a countdown party featuring many famous V-pop acts.

The area around Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem lake in the famous Old Quarter and the August Revolution square in front of the iconic Hanoi Opera House were jam-packed as people gathered to watch countdown parties. For several years now the Countdown Festival has been one of the most anticipated events in the capital city.

Meanwhile, the northern coastal cities of Ha Long and Hai Phong were flooded with holiday-goers hours before midnight.
