She also addressed the second session of the two parliaments and had separate meetings with Russia’s associations.

On Tuesday, Madam Ngan and Chairwoman of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko discussed cooperation between the two countries and legislative bodies, and directions for the Russian Year in Vietnam 2020.

Chairwoman Ngan suggested that the two parliaments urge both sides to provide broader market access to each other’s agricultural and fishery products.

She spoke highly of the two nations’ flourishing cooperation in defence, security, military technology, education, training, science, technology, culture, and tourism. Madam Ngan urged the Russian Federation Council to continue to be a bridge connecting localities of the two countries and facilitating visas for Vietnamese citizens.

Chairwoman Matviyenko said the Russian Federation Council hopes for more exchanges of young parliamentarians and effective coordination between the two legislative bodies at regional and global parliamentary forums.

At a press conference following the talk, Chairwoman Ngan said: “We will continue to have a mechanism of consultation and close cooperation in multilateral forums and regional and global inter-parliamentary forums to support views that benefit both Vietnam and Russia. We will sign an agreement on the travel of citizens of both countries as soon as possible.”

Chairwoman Matviyenko said that the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia is a priority of Russia’s foreign policy.

“Vietnam and Russia will soon celebrate 70 years of diplomatic ties. Within the framework of the Russian Year in Vietnam, both agree to participate in all activities, support the prompt signing of a Travel Agreement for citizens of the two countries and an Inter-governmental Agreement on organized recruitment of Vietnamese citizens to work in Russia. The two parliaments will oversee the process for the benefit of the two peoples, creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese citizens in Russia and Russian citizens in Vietnam,” said Matviyenko.
