(VOVWORLD) - The traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia are developing actively, said Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in an interview with Russian news agency TASS during his official visit to Russia from Monday to Thursday.

PM Phuc highlighted mutual political trust in a series of meetings and delegation exchanges.
The two nations will organise a Vietnam Year in Russia in 2019 and a Russia Year in Vietnam in 2020 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Treaty on Basic Principles for Bilateral Relations and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties. A free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union which came into force in October 2016 has strengthened economic and trade links between Vietnam and Russia. Investment cooperation between the two countries continues to expand, with new large-scale projects emerging in oil, gas, and other energy sectors, PM Phuc noted. Progress has also been made in education, training, science, technology, culture, sports, and tourism cooperation.
PM Phuc said that during his visit, he and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will review the development of bilateral relations and the implementation of past agreements. They will discuss ideas for solving current problems and potential joint projects like e-government development and the construction of a science research centre and nuclear, oil, gas, and transportation infrastructure in Vietnam.
The PM said energy and military technology are important pillars of the comprehensive strategic partnership, adding that the two sides are expanding cooperation in the energy sector, conducting joint projects on solar and wind energy.
