FM Son addressed Friday’s virtual ministerial meeting to launch the Global Coalition to Address Synthetic Drugs, which was initiated by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and involved representatives from 70 countries and international organisations.

He called for joint international efforts to support the implementation of UN conventions on drug prevention and control, and help strengthen the role of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND).

Minister Son suggested that international attention should be paid to strengthening support for developing countries on information sharing and improving capacity, resources, and technology.

To solve the problem in a sustainable way, it’s necessary to increase measures to eliminate hunger, reduce poverty, improve education, and create jobs, especially for young people, Mr. Son said.

He also shared the efforts Vietnam and ASEAN have made to strive for a drug-free environment and affirmed Vietnam’s support for international efforts to mobilize more resources for drug prevention and control at the national, regional and international levels.

Vietnam has over the years prioritized drug crime prevention and control by introducing its own measures coupled with international and regional cooperation.

It has implemented many policies and solutions to mobilize all levels, sectors and people to participate in the fight against different types of crimes and social evils, thus gradually curbing and reducing crime, ensuring national security, maintaining social order and safety, and serving national socio-economic development.

Vietnam closely cooperates with drug prevention agencies of other countries and UN organizations including the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
