During a phone conversation on Wednesday,  Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Thai counterpart Prayut Chan-o-cha discussed measures to promote bilateral cooperation.

The two Prime Ministers agreed on coordination to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Vietnam-Thailand diplomatic ties in 2021; maintaining and promoting effective bilateral cooperation mechanisms; early signing an action plan to implement the strengthened strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand from 2021 to 2025; and striving to increase bilateral trade to 25 billion USD by 2025. In 2019, bilateral trade reached nearly 17 billion USD.

Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation and mutual support in multilateral mechanisms, promote transport connectivity as well as sustainable development in the Mekong sub-region.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Thailand to support Vietnam to host the ASEAN Center for emergency medical situations and emerging epidemics.

The two Prime Ministers stressed the importance of continuing to strengthen solidarity and upholding the common stance of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on the East Sea issue.

They affirmed ASEAN's centrality in assisting Myanmar to overcome current challenges and agreed to cooperate with ASEAN to boost the implementation of the ASEAN leaders' agreement on Myanmar.
