Vietnam to send police to the peacekeeping mission
(VOVworld)- More than 100 national police chiefs gathered at the UN Headquarters in New York on Friday for the first summit of the United Nations Police (UNPOL) to chart the way forward for UNPOL to deliver greater impact on the ground. 12,600 male and female police officers from 87 countries are deployed in 18 UN peace operations. In his address, Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Van Thanh, who led a Vietnamese delegation to the event, said the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security planned to send police to join the UN peacekeeping activities and is preparing necessary resources for this plan. Vietnam asked the UN to organize regular summits for national police chiefs to share experience and exchange information. He urged the UN to work out specific action plans for each region, and support countries in participating in the UN peacekeeping mission.
