(VOVWORLD) - The UN Security Council needs to seek solutions to emerging challenges to global peace and security that are based on the UN Charter and international law, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, told a UNSC briefing on Tuesday.

Ambassador Quy underscored the importance of multilateralism and the UN’s central role in addressing global challenges. He urged the UN Security Council to focus on preventing and resolving conflicts, and building consensus, and said the UN Security Council must be reformed to improve its transparency, democracy, representativeness, and effectiveness.
It is crucial, he said, to support the role of regional organizations such as the African Union in maintaining peace and security, noting that ASEAN has affirmed its centrality in the regional security architecture of Southeast Asia.
