The event, organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security’s Investigation Police Department on Drug-Related Crimes (C04) and the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), drew more than 100 delegates from 18 countries and territories, as well as the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB).

In his address, C04 Director Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Vien said: “With the goal of preventing and controlling illegal drugs early and from afar, from their origin, and by preventing Vietnam from becoming an international drug transit area, the C04 has promoted cooperation with bordering countries and ASEAN member states. As an active member of the Mekong Sub-region mechanisms, Vietnam wants to expand the information exchange network with countries in the Asia Pacific region, and connect with parties who have experience and resources to fight drug.”

The two-day conference focuses on emerging developments concerning drug crime, challenges and solutions to improve cooperation in the face of increasingly sophisticate drug smuggling methods, joint investigations, and other issues.
