The document was signed by representatives of the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and the US Department of State during a working trip to the US from Monday to Wednesday. Minister Tran Tuan Anh, said the MoU is important to cooperation between the 2 countries: “The signing of the MoU reflects joint efforts in outlining common goals and basic solutions to expand and deepen the mutually-beneficial cooperation between the two states. The document will create the most favorable conditions for businesses of both sides to exploit opportunities in their respective markets. Vietnam considers the US an important partner not only because of the growing bilateral trade ties but also because of the US’ cutting-edge, environment-friendly technologies in energy, particularly liquefied gas. Vietnam is a net energy importer and greatly relies on imported liquefied gas to ensure its energy security”.
Following the signing ceremony, Minister Tuan Anh delivered a document from Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, announcing that Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved AES Corporation to be the primary investor in the 5 billion USD Son My 2 Gas Power Plant under a Build-Operate-Transfer contract.
