(VOVWORLD) - Foreign arrivals to Vietnam in the first month of 2018 surpassed 1.43 million, 42% more than in the same period last year, the General Statistics Office of Vietnam reported on Monday.
Visitors from the EU, the US, and Australia rose because of increasing numbers of overseas Vietnamese living in these countries returning home for the Lunar New Year and the growing popularity of winter vacations among people in the EU and the US.
In January, more than 1 million Asian tourists visited Vietnam, up nearly 54%. Following the trend, tourists from the EU surged by 23%.
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism said that since early January, the tourism sector has been implementing tourism promotion activities to lure visitors as it tries to reach the goal of receiving 15-17 million foreign visitors this year.
