Regarding news on China’s illegal construction work on Gac Ma reef in Vietnam’s Truong Sa Archipelago, the spokesman reiterated Vietnam’s sufficient legal grounds and historical evidence confirming its sovereignty in Truong Sa Archipelago. He said any unilateral act to change the status quo was a violation of Vietnam’s national sovereignty and ran counter to the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea while making the situation in the East Sea and the region more complicated.
The spokesman praised positive development in the Vietnam-Vatican Joint Working Group’s fifth meeting in Hanoi from September 10 to 11. Both agreed to maintain dialogues to facilitate Vatican’s non-resident envoy’s activities in Vietnam to guide Catholics following of Papal teachings in compliance with the State policy and actively participating in national construction and defense.
