Export prices skyrocketed to 4.3-4.5 USD/kg throughout the reviewed period. Durian currently accounts for 65% of Vietnam’s total fruit exports.
Spending 1.22 billion USD on Vietnamese durian, China remained the fruit’s top importer, accounting for nearly 92.5% of Vietnam’s total durian export, followed by Thailand with 47 million USD.
Other key export markets include Japan (2.6 million USD) and Cambodia (1.6 million USD), a two-fold and 23-fold increase respectively, compared to the same period last year.
Harvest season in the Central Highlands from July to October will help boost durian export turnover, which is expected to reach 3 billion USD this year, said Dang Phuc Nguyen, general secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association.
