Vietnamese people stranded in Australia have been given accommodations and food. Do Van Quy, who lives with his family in Melbourne, has become busier than usual these days trying to run his business, take care of his children during a prolonged school closure, and collect donations of rice for fellow Vietnamese in Melbourne who are in need.

Quy said: “Food is essential to survive this pandemic. When it comes to food, I think immediately of rice. Rice has sold out at stores in Melbourne so I’ve been searching for another source of rice to help the needy Vietnamese people here.”

Mr. Quy and his friends have reached out to Vietnamese students like My Thuong, a freshman at the Melbourne campus of Australian Catholic University. Thuong said: “How moved I am to receive support from my fellow countrymen. Wherever I go, as long as Vietnamese people are around, I know I will never be alone. Mr. Quy’s heartfelt generosity reflects a Vietnamese tradition of being willing to help others in difficult times.”

Vietnamese people in Russia have stepped forward to provide interpretation services for Vietnamese who require a health examination or hospitalization. They also give advice to people who have contracted the coronavirus or another illness.
