Vietnamese flag flies at ASIAD 18
(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnamese flag was hoisted at Kemayoran athlete village in Jakarta,the capital of Indonesia, at a ceremony on Thursday in the wake of the 18th Asian Games (ASIAD 18).
The flag-hoisting ceremony aimed to welcome sport delegations from Asian nations and territories to the Games, which will take place from August 18th to September 2nd. Welcoming the participating delegations, Yuni Kartika who is in charge of the athlete village, affirmed that ASIAD’s goal is to show solidarity and cooperation of Asian countries and territories. ASIAD 2018 will be officially held in two major Indonesian cities – Jakarta and Palembang, with the participation of 15,000 athletes and coaches from 45 countries and territories competing in 40 sports. The Vietnamese delegation will consist of 523 people, which includes 352 athletes. They aim to come home with at least three gold medals. At the previous ASIAD in 2014, Vietnam earned one gold, 10 silver and 25 bronze medals, ranking 21st in the overall medal tally.
