Vietnamese FM meets with Lao and Cambodian counterparts

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son met with his Lao and Cambodian counterparts in Vientiane, Laos, within the framework of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers Retreat on Sunday.

At the meeting with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, the two men agreed to continue promoting cooperation and maintaining delegation exchanges and contacts in multiple flexible forms.
They pledged to strengthen coordination and mutual support at global, regional and sub-regional forums, work with member countries to maintain solidarity and strengthen ASEAN's centrality in regional and global issues.

On the same day, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia Sok Chenda Sophea.
Both agreed to actively coordinate to well organize the 21st Meeting of the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Committee on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technical Cooperation and effectively expedite the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Vietnam Diplomatic Academy and the Cambodia Institute of Diplomacy and International Cooperation.
They pledged to continue to actively discuss and negotiate demarcation of the remaining 16% of land borders and consider opening new border gates between the two countries. The two ministers agreed to coordinate closely and support Laos to successfully assume the role of ASEAN Chair 2024 and promote intra-bloc solidarity and ASEAN's centrality in solving regional and global issues.
