Vietnamese, French NA Chairmen hold talks

(VOVworld) – The President of the National Assembly (NA) of France, Claude Bartolone, began his official visit to Vietnam on Friday.

Following the official welcoming ceremony, the two NA chairmen held talks and agreed on many key issues to boost bilateral parliamentary relations and the strategic partnership between the two countries.

President Bartolone congratulated the success of the 12^th Party National Congress of Vietnam, and hoped that the new leaders of the Vietnamese Party, National Assembly, and Government will continue to strengthen bilateral relations in all fields.

NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said the Vietnamese National Assembly is completing its legislative system, including many laws relating to economic, trade, and investment activities in accordance with the 2013 Constitution. Vietnamese law always protects the legitimate rights of foreign investors, including the French.

Mr. Hung proposed that both sides increase economic cooperation in transport, agriculture, pharmacy, science, education, healthcare, and human resource training.

Vietnam and France should pay more attention to security and defense cooperation to help to maintain international peace, according to Chairman Hung, adding that the French National Assembly will strongly support Vietnam in ensuring maritime security, navigation safety, and in opposing the militaralization of the East Sea. Hung called on France to jointly discuss and abide by international law in tackling maritime conflicts.

President Bartolone underscored the need to respect international law to avoid possible disruption of maritime trading in the East Sea and reduce tensions. He said energy, water, environment pollution treatment were areas in which France was experienced and ready to work with Vietnam. France will also boost cooperation in personnel training, assist Vietnam to train and transfer medical technologies, and facilitate favorable conditions for Vietnamese students to study and undertake research in France.
