During Tuesday’s meeting in Seoul, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Woo Won-shik, speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, also reached consensus on promoting the role of the two legislative bodies in helping the two governments boost cooperation, including realizing the goal of lifting two-way trade to 100 billion USD by 2025.

Speaker Woo said that the Korean parliament will work closely with the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) to help the two governments substantively carry out the action program under the new relationship framework, and bolster cooperation in economic security and human resources.

PM Chinh requested that the two NAs work closely to effectively implement bilateral and multilateral mechanisms, adopt policies to support Vietnamese enterprises to better engage in the global supply chains of Korean firms, and continue opening the Korean market for Vietnamese goods.

He called for enhanced cooperation in digital and green transformation, and the RoK’s assistance to Vietnam in human resource training in semiconductors and AI.

Mr. Woo asked the Vietnamese Government to create favorable conditions for Korean firms operating in Vietnam.

He said the Korean NA will work with the Vietnamese NA to urge the two governments to promote the protection of citizens and support for expatriates, ensuring their stable livelihoods in the host nation.

He underscored the need to enhance cultural exchanges, tourism cooperation and exchanges between localities so that the two nations will have better mutual understanding, creating a basis for the sustainable development of their bilateral ties.

PM Chinh is currently on an official visit to the RoK through Wednesday.
