Vietnamese, Malaysian PMs talk on the phone

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a phone call with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Sunday to exchange views on bilateral relations and assess recent emerging regional and global issues, including the new US tariff policy.

PM Anwar informed PM Chinh that Malaysia, in its capacity as ASEAN Chair in 2025, will host the ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting on Thursday, to discuss measures to strengthen intra-regional connectivity and cooperation, especially in light of the new US tariff policy.

Mr. Chinh shared Vietnam’s efforts in conducting dialogue with the US, including a phone call between Party General Secretary To Lam and US President Donald Trump on April 4, to examine measures to resolve the issue and promote economic and trade cooperation towards fair, sustainable trade that harmonizes the interests of all parties.

PM Chinh also welcomed Malaysia’s initiative to organize the ASEAN Economic Ministers' Meeting and affirmed that the Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade would attend the event.

PM Anwar said Malaysia and many countries in the region applauded the phone call between General Secretary To Lam and President Donald Trump, and voiced support for Vietnam’s approach to addressing this issue.

The Malaysian Prime Minister also informed his Vietnamese counterpart on several initiatives that Malaysia is undertaking as ASEAN Chair to address the situation in Myanmar. He emphasized Malaysia’s policy of promoting dialogue and ensuring unity and consensus in Myanmar as well as relief efforts for earthquake victims there.
