“Respecting teachers and morals” is a time-honoured tradition of Vietnamese people. Teachers are always respected for their morality, knowledge, commitment, and dedication.

At a meeting on Monday with 200 teachers, who represented thousands of teachers nationwide, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said a teacher is the one who spreads knowledge, humanity, purity, and discipline. Teaching is the most honourable career. He said each teacher should set an example in terms of ethics, self-study, and creativity, and help his students develop the right sentiments, attitudes and behaviors.

Activities to honour teachers have been held nationwide over the past few days. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with National Assembly deputies who are teachers and educators. National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan attended a meeting honouring teachers at the Finance Academy in Hanoi. Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh participated in a Teachers’ Day Meeting at Thai Nguyen University. Provinces have held programs to honour teachers who teach students with disabilities, retired teachers, and young outstanding teachers.

Le Thi Thanh Nhan, a lecturer at the Business Management Faculty of Thu Duc Technology University, was honoured as an outstanding young teacher of Ho Chi Minh City. “I’m proud to receive this award. It’s a responsibility for us in the future. I’ll have to improve myself in teaching and study to be constantly creative in my career.”

This year, two Vietnamese universities made the list of the 1,000 best universities in the world. Vietnamese students won many prizes at international competitions.
