The items were carved in wood and painted with red lacquer trimmed with gold during the Le and Nguyen dynasties from the 17th to the early 20th century. The exhibit also includes photos and videos showing how such artifacts were made. Nguyen Bang Giang, Secretary of the Thang Long-Hanoi Antiques Association, said: “The collection is diverse, ranging from Buddha statues, parallel sentences to horizontal lacquer boards and palanquins. There has been a growing interest in wood lacquer ware. Collecting wood artifacts and altar decorations in red lacquer trimmed with gold is a hot trend right now”.
