Vietnam-Japan Cooperation Committee convenes 12th session

(VOVWORLD) - Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko co-chaired the 12th meeting of the Vietnam-Japan Cooperation Committee and held talks in Tokyo on Wednesday.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to enhance the connection between their economies by promoting cooperation in ODA, investment, trade, and labor.

Minister Son proposed that Japan continue to provide new generation ODA with high incentives and simpler, more flexible procedures for Vietnam in areas such as digital transformation, green transformation, climate change response, health, and large-scale infrastructure development.

Minister Kamikawa Yoko affirmed Japan's appreciation for Vietnam's recent efforts in innovation, administrative reform, and ensuring a stable electricity supply to improve the investment environment and facilitate economic development. She noted that Japanese businesses are interested in Vietnam as an attractive investment destination to diversify the supply chain.

Both sides affirmed their commitment to closely coordinate in effectively implementing the Vietnam-Japan Joint Initiative in the new era, Phase 1, to ensure Japanese investors in Vietnam can do business effectively and sustainably, and to achieve stable and sustainable growth in trade turnover between the two countries.

They also agreed to expand comprehensive cooperation into new fields, including digital transformation, innovation, information technology, and digital society, through practical and specific initiatives and projects.

Minister Kamikawa Yoko emphasized Japan's desire to cooperate with Vietnam in sustainable development, emission reduction, and environmental initiatives, such as the Asia Zero Emissions Community (AZEC).

The two sides will strengthen cooperation in training human resources, including high-quality personnel, to address the issue of population aging. They agreed to initiate negotiations on a bilateral agreement on social insurance.

Following the meeting, the two ministers held talks where they agreed to enhance political trust through regular visits and exchanges by senior leaders of both countries, further promote dialogue mechanisms, and substantively advance defense and security cooperation between Vietnam and Japan.
