(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam’s two-way trade turnover with the Americas has quadrupled to nearly 79 billion USD over the past decade, according to a gathering in Hanoi on Monday to highlight Vietnam’s economic achievements in 2018 and its cooperation with partners in the Americas.

200 ambassadors, diplomatic agencies, and businesses from Vietnam and the Americas attended the event.
"Vietnam and the Americas are getting closer through their comprehensive partnership in economics, trade, and investment. Vietnam wants to enhance trade and investment with countries in the Americas in energy, telecommunications, high-tech agriculture, and high-value-added industries," said Do Thang Hai, Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade.
Vietnam now has trade relations with 35 countries in the Americas. Its exports to the region totaled more than 58 billion USD last year. 24 countries in the Americas are currently involved in 1,200 investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of 15.5 billion USD.
