Mr. Phuc on Friday chaired a meeting in Hanoi marking Vietnam’s 75th National Day (September 2), which was attended by National Assembly Chairwoman, other senior leaders, and representatives of foreign diplomats and organizations.

PM Phuc said over the past 75 years, Vietnam has recorded important progress across the board and contributed significantly to peace and cooperation around the globe.

“These great and historical achievements proved the strong spirit and will of the Vietnamese nation and affirmed its role as a reliable friend and partner of the international community. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres lauded Vietnam’s contributions since its admission in 1977, saying that the 75th anniversary of National Day of Vietnam is concurrent with its ASEAN Chairmanship Year and non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council, proving its increasingly strong presence on the international arena,” he said.

Prime Minister Phuc said Vietnam has put forth important and timely initivatives as the Chair of ASEAN 2020 and ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly 41, and a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. He called for joint efforts to ensure sustainable globalization and reform multilateral mechanisms with the UN playing the central role.

“All nations, all countries must honor the rule of law and respect each other’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and legitimate interests. Many small and medium countries suffered enormously during their struggles for national independence and construction and are now making important contributions to global development. Their voices must be heard and respected," Mr. Phuc noted.

"We should work closely together to fight COVID-19 more effectively, cope with other epidemics in the future, and stay alert against non-traditional security risks such as pollution, climate change, and natural disasters,” the Vietnamese PM said.

Palestinian Ambassador to Vietnam Saadi Salama, head of the diplomatic corps, highly evaluated Vietnam's contributions as Chair of ASEAN in 2020 and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure.
