Vietnam's International Law Commission membership ends
(VOVWORLD) - Ambassador Nguyen Hong Thao, a Vietnam representative to the United Nations International Law Commission (ILC), has successfully concluded his term with major contribution to the organization.

The International Law Commission on Friday concluded its 73rd session and also the last session of the 2017-2022 term in Geneva, Switzerland.
During Dr. Thao term, Vietnam’s international relations experiences were recommended to be included in ILC international law reports such as Vietnam's role in the fight against genocidal crimes against humanity, cooperation between Vietnam and the United States in overcoming the consequences of Agent Orange, and national responsibility in national succession.
Ambassador and Doctor Nguyen Hong Thao will continue to take on the role of a member of ILC for the next term 2023-2027.
Addressing the closing meeting of the 73rd session, on behalf of the Asian States regional group, Ambassador Thao praised the efforts of the Commission and its support for developing countries. He promised to make further contributions to the progressive development of international law, for peace, friendship, cooperation and sustainable development in the world.
The ILC is an independent body of the UN, and specializes in developing and codifying international law, and reporting to the UN General Assembly’s Legal Committee. It is composed of 34 members who are elected by UN member states every five years via secret ballot.
