Vietnam’s social insurance aims for wider coverage
(VOVWORLD) - The number of voluntary social insurance, health insurance, and unemployment insurance participants in Vietnam continues to increase, particularly among vulnerable groups, according to Vietnam Social Security. Health coverage exceeded the goal set by the Party and Government.
18.2 million people now have social insurance. That’s approximately 40% of the working-age labor force. 14.7 million people have unemployment insurance, up 2.5 fold since 2009. 93.3% of the total population have health insurance coverage, up 15 fold since 2015.
Nguyen The Manh, Director General of Vietnam Social Security, said workers’ rights and interests have been protected, and the operating mode of the social insurance system has been refined in the direction of e-transactions, greater use of public services, and shorter settlement time.
“The sector’s achievements in recent years are a foundation for future development,” said Manh, adding, “The industry is determined to achieve its targets and tasks this year and in the coming years and looks forward to coordinating with ministries, departments, and local governments in implementing social insurance, health insurance, and unemployment insurance policies.”
