Ambassador Bang, who is also former Deputy Foreign Minister, said the waiver of the embargo enabled Vietnam to trade with the US and the rest of the world.
In the past 25 years, two-way trade surged from 400 million USD in 1994 to nearly 70 billion USD in 2019. The US has been Vietnam’s largest export market for several consecutive years. The strategic trust between the two peoples and senior leaders has been significantly improved through high-level visits, Bang said.
Ambassador Bang said he believes the Vietnam-US relationship will continue to grow. He said the bilateral comprehensive partnership established in 2013 has strengthened and expanded cooperation in politics, diplomacy, economics, investment, defense, security, culture, education, science, technology, overcoming war consequences, and people exchanges. He added that the two countries share a common goal of peace, stability, and development in Southeast Asia and the wider world.
