(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam’s automaker VinFast began construction of its 4 billion USD electric vehicle plant in North Carolina, the US, on Friday.
The facility, designed to produce up to 150,000 vehicles a year in phase 1, is expected to start operations in 2025.
Vinfast’s EV production in the US has garnered a strong backing from both federal and North Carolina governments and local people as it aligns with the US’s policy of prioritizing environmental protection, job generation, and high-tech intensive manufacturing, said Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung.
"The groundbreaking of the plant is vivid evidence of the development of the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and the US over the past 10 years,” he noted.

The plant will consist of two main areas: electric vehicle production and assembly. It will also house supplementary supplier businesses.
When the manufacturing complex commences operations, it will create an ecosystem of suppliers and help generate thousands of new jobs.
