(VOVWORLD) - The first VinFuture Awards ceremony will take place on Thursday with prize value of more than 3 million USD to honor scientific projects that can create changes in the lives of millions of people around the world.

A conversation with international scientists who are members of the VinFuture Prize Council and Pre-Screening Committee was held in Hanoi on Tuesday, as part of VinFuture Award Week.
In the Award’s first season, the organizing board received more than 1,200 entries from universities, research institutes, and national science academies. Of the 599 innovative ideas submitted, 100 came from the top 2% of the most-cited scientists in the world. Female scientists comprised 34 percent of the total.
Prof. Nguyen Thuc Quyen of the University of California, Co-Chairwoman of the Committee, says: "The VinFuture Award is very special in dedicating a category to female scientists. The award encourages more women to do science. The female scientists nominated for this year’s award are outstanding. I hope more Vietnamese female scientists will be honored in the near future."
The competition drew participants from 60 countries. Vietnam submitted 17 projects.
At the conversation, Dr. Le Mai Lan, Vice Chairwoman of VinGroup and Designated Representative of the VinFuture Foundation, said the Award aims to unlock the potential of developing nations for sci-tech innovation.
"It’s obvious that countries with advanced scientific technologies and more investment in this sector will have a competitive advantage and more opportunities to win. Investment in science and technology is profitable and sustainable and brings positive changes to people around the world. The establishment of this Award is part of a campaign to bring better things to life," said Dr. Lan.
The VinFuture Award not only raises Vietnam’s status in the field of science and technology but also connects Vietnamese scientists with international scientific and technological communities.
