(VOVworld)- Clashes between Cambodian police and supporters of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) occurred in Phnom Penh late Sunday.

The CNRP had vowed to protest in a non-violent manner but violence broke out. The protests exceeded what were allowed by the Ministry of the Interior. Protesters conducted illegal sit-ins and set up camps at the site of the protest, raising concerns about security in Phnom Penh. The Cambodian Ministry of Education and Training decided to shift the elementary graduation exam date from Monday to the end of the month. Shops and services in the capital were shut down. The CNRP said it would continue its protest on Monday and Tuesday despite the Cambodian Ministry of the Interior’s orders. The CNRP will also boycott the first session of the new Parliament led by the Cambodian King on September 23.
