(VOVworld) - Delegates to the 5^th National Congress of the Vietnam War Veterans’ Association on Wednesday discussed the association’s tasks for the next term. Addressing the opening ceremony on Tuesday, Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong said: "With their devotion, experience and prestige, war veterans and the War Veterans’ Association are in an advantageous position to help the Party educate the younger generation in patriotism tradition and a love of revolutionary heroism. I hope you will consider it an important task, your responsibility and sentiment to the young people. The Association and its chapters need to join with the younger generation in developing the economy and promoting the youth’s creativity and vanguard role in national construction and defense".

The Party leader urged the War Veterans’ Association to develop as a pure and strong association in political thought and organization, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of veterans. Trong said he hoped the association will direct the active, persistent and effective implementation of the resolution of the Party Central Committee’s 4th plenum, and participate in building a stronger Party closely connected to the people.

At their discussion on Wednesday, the delegates highlighted the association’s achievements in realizing political tasks in developing into a pure and sustainable organization. The Association’s members have improved their knowledge, been persistent to the Party’s leadership and contributed to maintaining national political stability. Nguyen Van Hoan, President of Nam Dinh province’s War Veterans’ Association said: "In the near future, the Vietnam War Veterans’ Association need to strengthen political and ideological education to help its members maintain political stance. This work must be done regularly and widely among the Association’s chapters".
