The festival includes a seminar, an exhibition of Tra Vinh’s fruit specialties, a cooking contest, a trade fair, lion and dragon dances, and the Hoa’s worship of Ong Bon, a revered Chinese diplomat and historian.
Waxy flesh coconut has no water in it, and is full of white greasy jelly-like flesh when fully ripen. Waxy flesh coconut trees are farmed across 750 hectares, mainly in Cau Ke district. In Vietnam, it is often used to make smoothies or mixed with sweetened condensed milk, shaved ice, and peanuts for a dessert.
Tra Vinh has more than 27,000 hectares of coconut trees, making it the second largest coconut tree-growing locality in the Mekong Delta region, after Ben Tre province. Cau Ke waxy coconut was officially recognized as one of Vietnam's 50 famous fruit specialties in 2012.
Earlier this month, the Vietnam Coconut Association recognized the waxy flesh coconut trees grown in Tra Vinh province as native to Vietnam.
